Law No 058/2021: Insights into the Law and how to begin your data protection compliance journey

The two-year transition period for Law No 58/2021 relating to the protection of personal and privacy will end on the 15th of October 2023. The new data protection law affords individuals (clients, customers, employees, etc) with a new set of rights with regards to the use and collection of their personal data.
The Law is a game changer, and it will impose new obligations on organizations and individuals that collect, use, store and share personal data of individuals. These obligations include the registration with the National Cybersecurity Authority; appointment of a data protection officer (DPO) and ensuring compliance with other articles within the Law.
