Ten years ago, it was impossible to think of Rwanda as one of the promising innovative countries. It was not a rocket science analysis to make as the country couldn’t boast of any large active innovation hub with the capacity to accommodate innovators, accelerators, venture capital firms, fund managers, regulators, and other players in the ecosystem.
Today the story is different as the country has attracted and still attracting global players like Norrsken and hosting BioNTech a company behind the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and Ircard, the two companies that are expected to share knowledge, lay bed, shape, and spearhead medical advancements in the country and beyond.
But despite these noticeable developments, the local media has not come forth in doing coverage justice to this booming and active innovation space. The media has been slow to react as it is seemingly reluctant to shake off its old practice of pumping the public with only political and showbiz news content.
And when they take the initiative, the coverage has been always momentary. A practice that has starved the public of the information about the new developments and their most likely impact.
With media wielding high public trust, the ongoing limited or scarce media coverage is denying innovators and entrepreneurs vital attention and spotlight moments.
In the absence of adequate media coverage, the ICT Chamber together with RBA resolved to start a technology and innovation-focused TV show dubbed “The Tech Launch Pad”.
According to the negotiations, the show will be featuring entrepreneurs, and innovators and carrying stories of some of the breakthroughs, emerging businesses, and discussions on policies needed to establish and sustain vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship support ecosystem.
Starting on 07th March 2023, the show will always run three times a week on KC2 with one premiere on Thursdays at 8:00 pm Central African time and two rebroadcasts; one on Sunday at 6:00 pm and the last on Wednesday at 10:00 am.
The highly anticipated show is expected to bridge the existing gap in coverage giving technology, innovation, and emerging businesses the deserved coverage.
